Pre-Christmas Celebrations

Dec 13. - Swedish St. Lucia Day

The Christmas season in Sweden begins with the procession of Saint Lucia, a beautiful young woman wearing a white gown, red sash and a crown of burning candles. In the morning there might be a procession of St. Lucia and her attendants in the community. Saint Lucia is a martyr from the fourth century whois remembered during the Christmas season on December 13, the shortest day of the year. The saint brings light into a world that has been plunged into darkness.
