Back in Hallstatt.

ok - now she's complaining.
We were trying to find something and walked and
walked back and forth. She was tired after hiking the mountain.

very tiny house

Gunner liked this Hotel because it was almost like his name!

Found what we were looking for!

This church only had a few graves, so the used to clean out the graves. Now more people choose cremation so they don't have the same space issues as they did in the past.

When they cleaned out a grave they stored the bones in an ossuary.

They would paint the name of the person
and the dates on the skull and then decorate it
with symbols that represented that person.

Each type of leafe, flower, type of cross represented something different.
Wish I had photographed the info paper they gave us while we were in there.
