Trimming the Tree

12 years ago on our first Christmas Jared was deployed so I was at Mom and Dad's for Christmas. Didn't get a tree in our home in Alaska (AK). Our next Christmas we were in AK and traveling home with 6 month old, Caden for the holidays. A real tree in AK cost about $100, which was not in our budget at the time and not a great idea when your traveling out of state anyways~ So we picked up a fake tree, that was the best looking fake tree I have ever seen. And since then we have always used that~ I can set my tree up in Nov and take it down in Jan and that's ok~ it wont die. So this is the first year my kids will have a real Christmas tree! I am kinda excited about that~ and also kinda freaked out because I know its going to drop pine needles and it will have bugs~ and Jared and I joke... possibly a squirrel ( I'm hoping to find a stuffed one to hide in the tree this next week~ LOL!)

A friend told us about a place to get a fresh tree so off we went today to get a Christmas tree. It hasn't felt very Christmasy lately. Normally I have quite a few bins of Christmas decorations to adorn the house with. (And I like to start early!) But we decided to travel lightly and come with only one small box of Christmas. So I have been very excited to get the tree and put on some decorations that we bought here. Hopefully then it will start feeling more Christmasy.

We arrived at the house and the only way you can tell they sell trees is the tiny printed sign in a window.
But we go in and are meet by a happy to see us barking dog and a man that speaks no English. He just chatted away to us in Hungarian like we knew what he was saying.... We had no clue. Something about the dog once.... But we smiled and nodded and followed him to the back of the property. We started looking and saw a bunch if trees with tags, those were taken trees. We wanted a smaller tree since we don't have many ornaments but all the ones that we wanted we could tell he was saying they were too small~ Apparently, maybe they don't sell them till they are large enough..... we will never know because, we have no idea what he was saying. So to take down the tree he starts digging the tree out.... That's right digging! (Makes sense  its easier to get the stump out with the leverage of the whole tree.) Then Jared and him carry it to the front where he saws off the end and wraps it up in a netting and we load it onto the car, tie it up, and head home with our giant tree~ But its a beautiful tree.... So really I think it all turned out well! :) Jared says its kinda like our version of a charlie brown tree~ because it doesn't have as many branches as our fake tree. Which we fill with ornaments, we could probably only fit about 1/4 of our ornaments on this tree~ so its a good thing we left those in storage! ;)

Maybe this one???

Still looking!

Digging out the tree

Hes a keeper!

Sawing me a round off the bottom to make a pintrest ornament! ;) LOL

That is one BIG tree~ Good thing we are going to saw a big chunk of the top off!

The kids were cold so they watched from inside!

Bringing it in!

Already making a mess~ Thanks Caden for getting on that for me!

Cutting off the netting

The branches kept folding out at him as he cut further down,
it was making him nervous he was going to get whacked with a branch.

So daddy finished the rest

Gunner's chosen ornament from the Christmas market.
He says it looks like an arrow.
