We were blessed by a lovely Hungarian friend today! She taught us how to make Pörkölt with dumplings & Fánk with homemade marmalade.
If I was going to give it an American name I would call it Paprika Pork, Hungarian Noodles, & Doughnuts with Jam.
It was AWESOME!
Chopping the Pork
Chopping Onion's
Sauteing the Onions
Chopped Green Paprika Peppers
Pork
In with the Onions
Look at that beautiful paprika!
Mild Paprika Sauce, Paprika Powder, & Lard
Anita says you can use oil, but it doesn't taste the same! :)
I was told this is the Good Paprika!
Adding the peppers
Adding 1/2 a tomato
Time to make the Fank (Doughnut's)
Fresh Yeast~ Truthfully I have never seen yeast like this
Crumble Yeast into warm milk
Anita our fabulous teacher! Zesting Lemon into flour
Add partially melted butter to flour.
Egg yokes only!
Egg's here are so yellow~ I've been told that is because they are so fresh!
Do you see how much the fresh yeast puffed up!
That's amazing!
Adding some baking rum
Anita says she doesn't enjoy this part very much! We told her she needs a Kitchen Aid! LOL
She then put the dough in the oven to rise.
On to the Noodles
Fairly simple, Salt, flour, eggs, warm water
Stir
Pan to boil noodles in
You slide the dough over something that looks almost like a cheese grater and the dough drips into boiling water
This is what it looks like when its cooking
Then you ladle the noodles out into a dry pan, add a little oil so they don't dry out.
Finished Pörkölt.
The Fánk Dough is ready!
Fold once with a little flour~ too much flour and it will burn when you fry them up
Very cool looking rolling pin~ we were oohing and Awwing over it!
Cutting out the Doughnuts
Brenda giving it a try
My turn
Karlijn's Turn
Cathy's Turn
How amazing do those look!
poke a hole in it then place upside down in fry pan filled with oil.
Flip
Sprinkle with powdered sugar
Be adorable & eat!
All the kids LOVED them!!!
Going back for 2nd's!
Strawberries & Apricot Marmalade ~ Apricot was my absolute favorite!
Our Hungarian meal~ Absolutely Amazing!
