Pamela says she try's to fit in and not look like a Tourist.... she does an amazing job at it too. I however cant help myself as I gawk in awe at how beautiful everything is and then, when they talk to me I sheepishly shake my head and shrug my shoulders Today I also HAD to take photos! How can I report back to all of you about the market without them? .....so that's a HUGE tourist sign!!! (Debbie sorry no photos of me~ it was too crowded to try to pass the camera off to Caden) I was trying to be nonchalant as I snapped away, I even turned off the flash so the pictures are not as crisp as they could be. But they do tell the story of the market. So far its been my favorite thing here. A GIANT room full of beautiful veggies~ this girl was in her happy place! I didn't buy much today. More of a taking it all in trip. The one veggie that I adore most is not one that they have here though. Sweet Potatoes.... Sad...... its the perfect environment for growing them here so that's one I don't get??? Pamela says I can get them down in Italy at the Base Commissary, I am thinking I will have to do that and then plant a few of them for next year!
They take pride in their flowers, and they are very beautiful!
I really wanted that big green basket! I don't know what for
but I just love the color! It was 4300ft which ends up being
about $20.... give or take a dollar or two.
I bout 2 heads of Butter lettuce (at least that's what I call it in the states)
for 200ft - less than a dollar
This is the produce/ food area
There is another Giant area where they sell clothing/shoes ect.
SOOOO Beautiful!!!! <3
Pamela bought the Giant Zucchini, Caden was excited to carry it!
When I left for the market this morning I was on a mission to
find a pumpkin. and for 1800ft ( less than $9) I got one!
This was the little old lady i bought my Pumpkin from, She was so very excited to
sell it. I imagine that she has worked hard to grow her small table of vegetables in her garden.
and that $1800 is a large purchase at her table. Its really neat to know your supporting a local farmer.
In talking with others that have been here longer the wages they are paid in Hungary are not super high.
A Teacher makes around $500 american dollars a month. It makes you appreciate the hard work
they put into the things they sell here at the market.
Eggs
Here is my pumpkin farmers with there scale measuring out how
many kilos of veggies for a customer.
Garlic, veggies, pumpkins, & honey
I am going to need a basket for my bike!
Headed home with Pamela's finds and my own finds!
2 Heads of lettuce 200ft, 1 bag of walnuts 1000ft
and a pumpkin 1800ft
a little less than $15 ~ Not bad for my first time!
