Day 2: German Road Trip - Neuschwanstein

A lot less driving was done today.
only 3 hours round trip! Tomorrow should be less than 2.

This was the 2 mugs from Yesterdays Starbucks ~ No Starbucks today
But There should be one in the schedule tomorrow!

We are on our way to a Castle!

Do you see that??? Its the SUN! :)

Gunner LOVED this clock tower

In most of the towns we went through today there was a clock tower
that you could see before you ever even reached the town.
Gunner thought that was really cool!

too Bad there are clouds, but it is still so beautiful!
We are in Bavaria!!!

120 = 75mph - Most of our trip in Germany there is no posted speed limit.
But here its telling you to slow down. LOL

Exit

We saw German Military Vehicles... Jared wondered what they were doing.
I said There must be a base near by.
Sure enough a few moments later we passed by a
walled area that was topped with barbed wire.

Swans are the symbol for this area and the kings favorite animal, there were swans incorporated into lots of aspects of the castle, embroiderer into the curtains, painted, sculpted, flower vases in the shape of swans, metal work on the doors of swans. Swan in German is spelled Schwan
Neu-SCHWAN-stein,  Neu translates New - Stein translates the same... so I researched it and its original meaning, meant stone.

New Swan Stone - or - New stone (castle) of swans

We made it to the castle! Its an hour hike to the top...... from this point.
We did it the first time we came..... This time we have the kids.
So we took a shuttle bus.

Fountain

There are 2 castles, this is the 2nd one. But we didn't tour it.

Waiting in line for the bus, Gunner made his head into an "Angry Bird"

Left to castle, Straight to over look bridge...
Castle first!

This is where the buss drops off teh castle is a 10 min hike from here.

Almost to the entrance!

We made it!

Over looking the canyon

The over look bridge, look close~ Can you see it?
We will go out to it next!

This castle was the inspiration for Disney's Cinderella Castle

So much detail

Inside the castle you cant take photographs... Such a bummer!!!
So I bought post cards and took photos of those! LOL

The throne room. This is where King Ludwig II, Would  have sat.
His Castle never fully finished. He died when the castle was only 1/3 complete.
I love the detail and all the religious paintings all over this room,
on an opposite wall there was Moses and the 10 commandments,
To the left and the right of the throne was the apostles.

The Kings Bedroom, it took 14 carvers 4 years to complete.
The castle took 17 years to complete up to this point.

Play & Orchestra Hall

Even the servants quarters were beautiful!

Throne room from the throne perspective, the chandelier weighs 2000 Lbs

Over looking the town and the other castle

View from the bridge

So impressive!

Lunch at a German restaurant. The food is amazing~ But its all cheese and meat, my stomach
has had its fill at this point! LOL Tomorrow's goal, find a restaurant that serves a GIANT salad!

German Brat, Mustard Sauerkraut, Mash potatoes.

Sausage an Sauerkraut~ Caden didn't like the sauerkraut.
I told her that's ok, I didn't either at her age. I tried it, it was very good~ not like what you
would get in the states though~ 100x better!

Gunner stuck with roasted chicken & spetzil (noodles)

Beautiful Tulips, I had Jared pull over so I could take a picture of them!

Last time I was in Germany some one told me about Spaghetti ice, Its ice cream ran through a cold
press that puts out noodle like ice cream then the put strawberry syrup on it to look like spaghetti sauce
and shaved white chocolate to look like cheese. After dinner we found a place that served that.
The kids didn't want strawberry so we settled for chocolate & banana. :) It was a lot of fun!

Neat building on our walk back to the hotel from dinner & desert
The shutters are all painted on and music instruments hang from the tree covered
in beautiful ribbons. Lots of places have a tree out front that is filled with these ribbons.
There are also a lot of polls, that I would think are like a may day poll? But they have a Christmas tree
stuck to the top of them? Need to figure out what that's about~ LOL
